Make-up by Joanna Delilah and Angela Youngs
September was the month to help raise awareness for childhood cancer. There were various worldwide campaigns and competitions throughout the month and we feel passionate that Illusion were part of this too. For this competition, we want to also raise awareness of websites that are actively involved in working with children with cancer and how you can get involved.
For this competition, the theme was Gold; we invited you to create a gold make-up design, face paint or body paint. Other colours could be used, but we asked that the design is primarily gold.
Julie and Claire from Illusion are both volunteer artists for a charity called Supershoes, which was co-founded by Sarah and Nick White in 2013. Supershoes provides personalised canvas shoes to terminally ill children. They are created by a team of volunteer artists, illustrating things which have a special significance to each child. Supershoes mission statement is to empower children fighting cancer whilst enhancing their physical and emotional wellbeing, raising awareness along the way.
We are thrilled that our guest judge for this competition is Supershoes co-founder, Sarah White. Sarah said: "Thank you so much for inviting me to judge your amazing competition and thank you for supporting Supershoes and childing fighting cancer. What a challenge! Such a collection of amazing artwork and really clever designs, I have been bowled over by the incredible talent from so many entries."
We invite you to check out these websites:
First Place Winner - Cameron Garrett
Sarah said: "I love Cameron’s design, it simply leapt out of the screen and captivated me, so fresh and beautifully created! Stunning. I thought the bright white worked as a wonderful contrast to the gold with the subtle use of gems to give a real lift. Congratulations Cameron."
Second Place Winner - Magali Beauvue
Sarah said: "Such an incredibly well balanced creation. I was amazed by the use of gold tones which have been so much depth in a piece that is so broken yet so perfect. Very well done Magali."
Third Place Winner - Rachel Madison
Sarah said: "Well done Rachel. I love this delicate yet opulent design, really well thought out and beautifully painted."
Special Mentions go to the following artists:
Sarah said: "A beautiful yet simple creation that stood out for me was Ola Waloch."
Sarah said: "Such a clever design, the golden goose was amazing."
Sarah said: "This is a really clever piece with the gold child cancer awareness ribbon painted around the models neck."
Thank you to every artist that entered this incredible and inspiring Go Gold For September competition, we love the diversity of your art and we are delighted to have this opportunity to showcase so much talent from across the world. A huge thank you also to Supershoes Founder, Sarah White for being our guest judge and her hard work in raising awareness of children with cancer.
