When we asked you to paint a rainbow for this competition, we knew our email inbox would be colourful. But what we didn't expect was how you incorporated rainbows into your face painting designs. From rainbow birds, rainbows dripping from the sky, the darker side of a rainbow and those that had a comical theme to it.
A rainbow is a metrological phenomenon that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. We are captivated by the beauty of rainbows and are often asked to paint them. One of the hardest things is trying to remember the correct spectrum of colours. How many of us sing the helpful song in our heads to remind us of the order of colour? But with the explosion of one-stroke cakes available to us now, it does make it easier.
We invited you to send us your face painting design that incorporates a rainbow, below is all of the winners, special mentions and all the other design that were entered.
First Place - Susanne Daoud
When Susanne sent in her design, she told us that she titled her piece called Rainbow Bridge and explained it's where we meet our pets we've loved and lost in the afterlife. This certainly brought a tear to our eyes, not only the meaning behind her face painting design, but how beautifully she captured this emotional subject. Take a look at the dog and cat just about to step over, they are being met by a stunning landscape and animal shapes as clouds. We have never seen such an incredible emotional design. We have so much pleasure to announce this as our first place winner - a massive congratulations Susanne!
Second Place - Marta Ortega Lopez
Huge congratulations to our second place winner Marta. There is so much fine detail in this face painting design, from a beautifully painted castle nestled amongst a moat that cascades down the face, a rainbow of flowers framing the face with the centrepiece, a stunning rainbow that is met with fluffy clouds. A gorgeous design Marta.
Third Place - Serena
Serena has created a very clever design that gives maximum impact with an explosion of colour that continues downwards. The way the rainbow bursts out of the skin, showing a stunning dark sky that is blending beautifully, to how the rainbow drips down. A gorgeous design. Congratulations Serena on your third place win.
