Sometimes an image flashed across the world can provoke such sadness. This week was no exception with news and images of Cecil the lion who was unnecessarily killed. Cecil was a major tourist treasure in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe’s largest game reserve; The 13 year-old animal had a reputation for being friendly towards visitors.
Today we received a poignant email from friend to Illusion, Murml Gold from Germany who like so many of us, felt saddened by what happened to Cecil. Murml said: “It makes me sad, the lion looks so lost and his majestic look is gone. This is not how I think this lions memory should be kept.” Murml picked up her brush and painted a tribute to Cecil on her daughter.
There is also an online petition to demand justice for Cecil and to tell Zimbabwe to stop issuing hunting permits to kill endangered animals.
